Important Information about Classes

Location: Classes are held at The Ink Pad or at The Westbeth Community Center. Please note where your class is scheduled. Westbeth Community Center is located at:55 Bethune Street (between Washington & West)

Class Suppy Policy: All students are required to bring with them to class, all required supplies (see individual class descriptions). Instructors are not responsible for supplying materials unless otherwise stated. At the discretion of the instructor, any student without the necessary materials may be removed from class.

Cancellation Policy: Payment in full is required for classes at time of registration. Students canceling up until 1 week prior to the start of a class will receive a full refund, less a $5.00 cancellation fee; after that time, refunds will only be made if a replacement student is found. As a courtesy to our teachers and students, please arrive on time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for a class, you will be seated at the teacher's discretion. Anyone not seated will forfeit fee and place in class. Please bring basic kit to each class: Scissors, double-sided tape, notebook or paper for notes, with pen or pencil.

Join Melanie, author of Inspired to Quilt, Creative Experiments in Art Quilt Imagery by Interweave Press for an all day workshop! Using layers of rich color and innovative stamp and stencil making techniques we will make surface designed papers with depth and
pizzazz. We will use these papers to create fabulous mail art envelopes to exchange-through the mail! These papers can also be used and reused in scrapbooks, journals and works of art. So let’s get busy and make art together. Melanie will be signing copies of
her book during class! There will be a one-hour lunch break.

Supplies Required (Available at The Ink Pad)
Sticky Back Fun Foam, Stamp mounts, Stencil cutting plastic
Cutting matt, #11 Exacto knife, Scissors, Envelope template
Stencils, Waterproof Sharpie Marker in black, thick and thin points, pencil and pen.
Glue stick, Small bucket to rinse brushes, Newspaper  
Optional items: heat gun, recycled papers, computer paper, found stencils,
like those found on greeting cards, doilies, sequin waste,

Walnut ink washes are a fun way to create unique backgrounds on paper. In this one day workshop you will learn to make beautifully washed papers using walnut ink crystals. (They go a long way!). Your finished papers can be used for your stamping, lettering, journaling, collage, and altered book art. Time allowing, we will make a small sample book of our experiments. Please wear old clothes and be prepared to play! There will be a 1 hour lunch break.


Wonderful Walnut Ink Washes
All Day Workshop with Debra Dick

2 (two) cups dissolved walnut ink crystals (transport liquid in a leak-proof container) You dissolve in hot (not boiling) water according to package directions—usually one part walnut ink crystals to two parts water, dissolved for a minimum of three (3) hours
½ cup undissolved walnut ink crystals (keep in a waterproof baggie or container)
Brushes: One or two paint or craft brushes– 1 ½ to 2 inches wide; One or two thin paint  brushes for detail work—1/8” to  ¼” wide
Three Mini-misters (you’ll need at least three misters; they come in a set of three)
Plastic containers: One medium for cleaning brushes; plus three small lidded margarine containers for ink
Several of your favorite rubber stamps
Two Ink Pads---one waterproof black and one water based, dye ink such as Distress or Adirondack brands--color should be Tea Dye or Old Paper or similar
Three small bottles liquid acrylic paint such as Golden liquid acrylic paints. If possible use what you already may have on hand. If you do not already have them, purchase one primary red, one primary yellow, and one primary blue, so that you can mix other colors from them. (I’ll show you how to mix!  OR-- Three bottles of acrylic ink such as Speedball Calligraphy Ink; Daler-Rowney FW Acrylic Pearlescent Liquid Acrylic Artists Ink and Doc Martins Bombay India Inks

Make an altered bird house! Students will reiceve a plain bird house kit and will make it unique by applying basic altered art tequniques. Learn to create a statement all your own, while creating a work of art to decorate your home, porch, or yard. Basic Class Kit required. Class held at The Ink Pad.
In this class we'll show you how to create stunning art and collage elements using Claudine Hellmuth's Sticky Back Canvas and a few new (and very cool!) transfer techniques using some surprising materials. The finished images have great texture and style and make perfect centerpieces for all your work! Basic Class Kit required. Class is limited to 5 students.

Explosion Books are a unique way to create a scrapbook, special occasion card, photo album or journal. You will learn to make a themed 6" x 6" album that "explodes" with pictures and memories.
